There are two secrets to how to have younger looking eyes. The first concerns the skin around the eyes, and the second lies in the eyes themselves.
Of course, in the long term you can have younger looking eyes by taking care of your skin. This means using a good quality skin cream that is specifically formulated for the area around the eyes.
This area of skin is especially thin and sensitive, and so it shows up any damage faster. How this damage shows will depend on your skin type. You may develop baggy pouches, fine lines or crow's feet, dark circles under the eyes or red, puffy eyes. It is important to find a product that will address the specific problem that you have, and then apply it regularly twice daily.
But maybe you want to have younger looking eyes right now? Say you are going out tonight and you would like to solve the problem of aging skin around the eyes that you have just noticed in the mirror. The answer in that case is makeup.
When you are using makeup to give you younger looking eyes, the idea is to open up the eyes and make them look bigger. So the first golden rule is to avoid heavy dark eyeliner, which has the opposite effect. Choose a lighter shade and not too much of it.
You can also shape your eyebrows a little if they need it, and then apply a highlighting eye shadow right below them. Cream shadow is usually more natural looking than powder in this area. This will draw attention upward and away from any lines or problem skin below the eyes.
Do not go too far with shaping your eyebrows. Very thin eyebrows only make you look older.
You can use your favorite eye shadow on the main part of your upper and lower eyelids, as long as it is not a dark color. Pale, shimmery cream shadows are excellent.
Then add a little gold eye shadow on the outer edges of the upper lids. Again this draws the attention upward and outward, opening up your eyes and making them look bigger.
Finally, apply your regular mascara to curl and lengthen the appearance of the lashes, paying particular attention to the lower lashes.
All of these makeup tips will help your eyes to appear younger. However, it is also important to think about the eyes themselves. It is not only the skin that can show the signs of age, or have conditions that make you look older even though perhaps you are still relatively young. If your eyes are bloodshot with a lot of broken veins, or very pale and watery, this can give you an older appearance.
In many cases these conditions are caused by bad habits that we can address. If you drink alcohol regularly, you could probably get younger looking eyes by cutting that out. If you cycle outside or do other sports involving speed, wear eye protection. Goggles are ideal but ordinary glasses or sunglasses will give your eyes some protection from wind pressure and dust, especially if they have large lenses.
Some diseases and conditions can also cause the eyes to look red. If you have any kind of serious problem with your eyes you should see a professional. The eyes are a very delicate and vital organ. Have them checked out if you are at all concerned. Nobody wants to lose their sight for the sake of having younger looking eyes.
